Physician

Dr. John Brady graduated with a bachelors of science degree, cum laude from the University of South Carolina with honors from South Carolina College in 1988. He enrolled in the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC and graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1992. Upon graduation, he was accepted into the Family Medicine Residency Program at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, SC which he completed in 1995 and entered the United States Air Force. Dr. Brady was stationed at Langley AFB and worked both at the main base clinic and at the 1st Fighter Wing Satellite Clinic (Bethel Clinic). He separated from the military in 1999 and began working for Family Medicine Associates of Suffolk. Soon, however, he felt he needed to better unite his professional and personal lives, so he returned to the Peninsula of Virginia and opened The Village Doctor in Newport News in 2003.

Dr. Brady has been recognized for providing quality patient care throughout his career. After medical school, he received the Ralph R. Coleman Award which is “awarded jointly by the departments of Medicine and Psychiatry in recognition of the ability to integrate medical care in considering the human and emotional aspects of the patient while demonstrating a sound knowledge of scientific medicine.” At the end of his internship year, he received the Lily M. and G.D. Jackson Award which was “presented to the physicians who have shown an extraordinary ability to care for patients.” During his second year in residency, he was awarded the Mead Johnson Award for Graduate Education in Family Medicine which is “presented to 20 family medicine residents nationwide for excellence in graduate education.” At the completion of residency, he received the South Carolina Academy of Family Physician’s Outstanding Resident of the Year Award. In 1999, upon completion of his military duty, he was awarded the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal. In 2008, Dr. Brady was honored by the Virginia Academy of  Family Physicians as the Virginia Family Physician of the Year. He originally was Board Certified in Family Practice in 1995 and received a re-certification in 2001 and 2008.

Dr. Brady is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School, where he assists in teaching outpatient medicine to medical students, and has associate staff privileges at Riverside Regional Medical Center. He is an Ideal Medical Practices faculty member and the Secretary of the IMP Board. In 2010, he was elected to the Board of Directors for the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians. He has spoken and written nationally on practice redesign and quality in small practices.

When not “working,” he is active in his church where he sings in the choir. Dr. Brady is married to Michelle, and has three children, Cecily, Madison, and Sam, who take up the majority of his free time.

Nurse

Jeannie Arado graduated from Minneapolis Community College in 1985 and was licensed as a LPN through the state of Minnesota. She started working in a nursing home, but soon became interested in working with patients with brain injury. She branched out and became the director for an inpatient program for brain injured clients. As Jeannie’s expertise grew, she was tasked to set up a brain injury unit at a rehabilitation hospital and worked as the Director of Social Services both there and at another facility in Minneapolis. She worked as a CPR instructor with the American Heart Association’s Minneapolis chapter and was involved in various volunteer programs in the Minneapolis area.

Since moving to Virginia in 1999, she has worked with Dr. Brady first at Family Medicine Associates in Suffolk and then as the Director of Nursing at The Village Doctor. When she is not working, she remains active in volunteering.
